Every cat deserves a good and loving owner and every rescuer & cat owner is responsible to screen adopters.

Most cat rescuers and foster parents wanted the cat they rescued to have a furever home as soon as possible. If we are not careful or we are entrusting the cat to a person we don’t fully know, you could be endangering the cat’s life rather than saving it. Therefore, to prevent then from happening, do the following steps to properly screen your prospective adopter.
I wrote this article to warn rescuers and foster parents because of the alarming cases where irresponsible exotic pet owners, adopt local kittens (Puspins) just to feed the kitten to their exotic pets, I’m not saying all exotic pet does this but there are some who do.
See and follow the steps below.
Only Entertain People Who Are Willing to Get Screened Especially if you don’t personally know the prospective adopter. Those who will really take care of the cat will be willing to get screened but those who have something to hide or finds screening a hassle won't probably care about the cat in the long run.
Do A Proper Screening Whatever is the Cat’s Breed If you only think that pedigree or cats with a particular breed needs to have their prospective parents undergo screening, then you are wrong, even prospective parents Puspin cats, must be properly screened by the rescuers and/or current foster parents.
Make an Online Form for Adoption This is advisable for all people who are posting cats for adoption, you will get to know about the interested people who wanted to adopt your cat, by making an online form that asks for their personal information and household situation. Have all the prospective adopters answer it, this way you will be able to assess who is the most suitable parent for your rescued cat(s).
Ask for Photos and Valid Government IDs This might seem very personal but it is a necessary step for evaluation in screening. If you discovered that something happened to the cat(s) you entrusted them with, you have a copy (picture) of their valid ID which you can show to the authorities when you report them.
Deliver the Cat Personally I personally think this is the most reliable step in adoption screening. Upon delivery of the cat to the family who will be the new parents of the cat, you will be able to see the place where the cat will stay, you will also be able to get to know the new parents of the cat.
Do a Surprise Visit or Video Call When weeks or months passed by, you need to do a surprise video call to see how is the cat (that they adopted from you) doing. If they are not answering through phone calls or video calls or posting photos of the cat you gave them, pay them a surprise visit (if you know their address, well you should know their address).
Please be a responsible rescuer or foster parent by looking for responsible and loving parents for the cats. Proper adoption screening is one way to avoid adopted cats being eaten by exotic reptile owners. Please do share this post as well to inform people, especially cat rescuers to do screening for the cats they are putting up for adoption.
